STEPHEN FRY, REBEL WILSON, JOHN BOYEGA AND LEONARDO DICAPRIO DOMINATE THE POST BAFTA SOCIAL DISCUSSION

Over half of users discussing Fry’s hosting duties think he did a good job

As the fizz evaporates from the post party champagne, the black ties and designer dresses are sent to the dry cleaners, Way To Blue looks at the biggest social winners from last night’s British Academy Film Awards.

We’ve broken down the biggest winners on social by award category, and also looked at which moments from the red carpet and the ceremony caused the most social discussion. We’ve also looked at the social sentiment surrounding the host with the most Stephen Fry.

Full findings can be found in the infographic below, but here are the top line stats:

  • Despite the Twitter Hoo-ha, over 50% of comments around Stephen Fry’s hosting of the event were positive or implied positive.
  • Stephen Fry’s ‘bag lady’ comment was the biggest social media moment of the night generating 2,136 mentions, followed by Rebel Wilsons intro for the Best Supporting Actor award generating 892 mentions.
  • Unsurprisingly the winners of the awards saw a spike in social mentions follow their wins. The biggest spike in mentions for a single nominee was John Boyega. His Rising Star win saw 1762 mentions during and after the ceremony.
  • The second and third largest amount of social conversation focused on the wins for Best Actor Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Supporting Actor Kate Winslet. The love for Kate and Leo really does still go on.
