Tech Time – TUMBLR

Tumblr is a platform so easy to use, yet it is often difficult to define. While that may sound like a problem, it isn’t. Every user crafts the experience they want. Tumblr is a free micro-blogging platform that took blogging and made it as exciting and sociable as your Facebook feed. It’s a place where niche is mainstream. Where you can discover the unexpected.

As of March 13, 2017, Tumblr hosts over 339 million blogs and has 550 million monthly visitors. 69% of Tumblr’s user base are between the ages of 18-34.

For us as an office it serves many different roles. We use it for design inspiration, discovering artists, mood boarding, fan art etc.

What makes Tumblr different from other platforms is that Tumblr has made it really easy for users to share (reblog) content. GIFs, for example, have existed long before Tumblr, but it wasn’t until they arrived on the platform that they exploded in popularity and moved from niche internet culture to a mainstream phenomenon.

GIF’s have become so popular on the platform that Tumblr developed a new product dedicated to streaming GIFs and only GIFs called Tumblr TV.

Tumblr is the platform we turn to first when looking for fanart for the films we work on. By connecting with fans via Tumblr we’re able to tap directly into our core audience.

It’s a platform by creatives for creatives!
