Greetings from CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The festival officially opened last night with Sony Pictures slate presentation – the first of a record 10 slate presentations scheduled this year.

The show opened spectacularly with BABY DRIVER. Sony played an extended clip which perfectly landed the cool, choreographed tone and style of this incredible movie. Edgar Wright, Ansel Elgort and John Hamm were on stage talking about the production and announced the movie was moving up to an earlier release date of June 28th.

The evening was A-list talent heavy, with Ryan Gosling presenting brand new footage from BLADE RUNNER 2049 (total edge of seat moment) and Tom Holland and Kevin Feige introducing the trailer 2 premiere of SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING. The clip features as much Tony Stark as it does Peter Parker, as the reboot firmly places itself squarely inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time.

Sony Pictures Animation presented clips from EMOJI (with Patrick Stewart’s Poop character delivering a very funny ‘now wash your hands’ gag), THE STAR and PETER RABBIT. This was followed with a short reel including production clips from CAVADER, PROUD MARY and FLATLINERS, before Dwayne Johnson arrived on stage to deliver the big finale. He was joined by Jack Black, Nick Jonas and Karen Gillan to present a 10 minute clip of JUMANJI.

Opening Cinemacon is a tough gig, but Sony Pictures did a great job this evening. Stay tuned for round ups of forthcoming presentations from STX, Paramount and Disney on day two.
